Day 45 - Technology #DailyGratitude

Nov 14, 2025

A reflection on technology as a neutral tool shaped by intention, exploring awareness, responsibility, and how to use digital tools to create something positive.

Every weekday morning, Zak goes live on his community, Take Action Daily, to chat with members about the daily word of gratitude and the key question. Enjoy reading today's summary from the live call below.

This morning’s reflection on technology turned into one of the most layered and meaningful conversations we have had so far. What began as a simple question about tools and devices soon opened into a much wider exploration of intention, ethics, responsibility, and the impact technology has on our inner world.

At the heart of it all was one central question:

How can you use technology today to create something positive?

The Tools in Our Hands

When I heard that question, my first thought was surprisingly clear. I wanted to use technology to share what we are building here. A simple video or page introducing Take Action Daily, explaining its intention, and using technology for what it is capable of at its best, bringing people together in a safe, meaningful space.

This community itself is proof of what technology can create. Without it, none of us would be sharing these reflections, listening to daily gratitude audios, or connecting across cities and countries.

But we also acknowledged the other side. This week I came across a video that revealed how AI language tools have already been used to imitate trusted voices online and manipulate vulnerable people. Some of the stories were devastating. It reminded me that technology amplifies whatever intention sits behind it, whether that intention is grounded in good or not.

I cannot control misuse on a global level, but I can control how I choose to use technology. That is where responsibility begins. When we use it intentionally, consistently, and positively, the ripple effect matters more than we realise.

I also reflected on something we often forget. We are among the small percentage of the world that has access to knowledge, connection, and opportunity at our fingertips. Using that privilege well is not just an option. It is a responsibility.

Today I am using it with purpose, to invite more men into meaningful conversations, men who might need encouragement, grounding, or simply a place to talk openly.

What Others Reflected

A community member shared something that expanded the conversation in a powerful way. They mentioned how technology has become such an individual activity. Most people use their phones alone, scrolling through content uniquely curated for them. Because of that, no two digital experiences are the same. We rarely compare how technology affects us because we are never seeing the same thing.

They spoke about the importance of discussing technology openly, not as judgement, but as awareness. When people compare experiences in a community setting, they build perspective that is impossible to gain in isolation.

Documentaries like The Social Dilemma came up too, and how understanding the mechanics behind attention, algorithms, and dopamine loops helped them create better boundaries, delete certain apps, or add simple friction to break habits.

They also reminded us that technology is remarkable when used with intention. Access to global knowledge, free education, skill development, creativity, and connection is something that would have been unimaginable just one generation ago.

One insight that stayed with me was the importance of building a real life anchor. When you have meaningful routines, good relationships, and genuine community, technology becomes a tool, not a trap.

What Today Highlighted

Technology is neutral.

Intention is everything.

Our discussion brought a few truths into focus:

  • Technology amplifies what is already there, both the good and the harmful.

  • Awareness is essential, you cannot change what you do not see.

  • Consumption is passive, creation is powerful.

  • Real life connection grounds us and breaks digital loops.

  • Education gives control back, understanding how tech works matters.

  • Responsibility sits with each of us, not with the tool.

  • Positive online spaces are needed more than ever.

The biggest realisation was simple.

Technology in the right hands can genuinely change lives. But we decide what those hands do.

Today’s Reflection Question

How can you use technology today to create something positive?

If you want something to try, choose one of the following:

  • Send a message that lifts someone up

  • Invite someone to join a positive community

  • Record a short reflection and share it

  • Reach out to someone you have not spoken to in a while

  • Learn something new that expands your perspective

  • Create something instead of consuming content

  • Put your phone away for an hour and reset your mind

Anything that brings clarity, connection, encouragement, or meaning to another person counts.

Have a great day.
