Day 42 - Shelter #DailyGratitude

Nov 11, 2025

A reflection on the meaning of shelter and gratitude, inspired by Remembrance Day. A reminder to value safety, comfort, and the peace many still live without.

Every weekday morning, Zak goes live on his community, Take Action Daily, to chat with members about the daily word of gratitude and the key question. Enjoy reading today's summary from the live call below.

Today’s reflection centred on the word Shelter, a theme that felt particularly meaningful on Remembrance Day.

When I first heard the word, my thoughts went immediately to those around the world who are living without safe shelter right now. From the recent hurricanes and typhoons in the Caribbean and the Philippines to the destruction caused by wars in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, and Yemen, it is humbling to realise how easily we can take stability and safety for granted while so many live without either.

During the morning discussion, we reflected on what shelter truly represents. It is not just a physical space, but a sense of comfort, protection, and belonging. It is what allows us to feel at ease, to rebuild, and to care for others.

We also spoke about remembrance, honouring those who once found refuge in trenches, bunkers, and temporary shelters during times of war, and those who continue to live without safety today. Shelter, in that sense, carries deep emotional and historical weight.

Reflection Prompts

  1. Take a quiet moment to appreciate your home and the stability it provides.

  2. Consider someone who might not have that same sense of safety. Could you reach out, raise awareness, or offer support in a small way today?

  3. As it is Remembrance Day, take a moment to acknowledge and remember the profound impact of the sacrifice made by fallen soldiers.

Shelter is more than a structure. It is a feeling of peace, warmth, and gratitude. And if you have that today, it is something worth recognising.

Have a great day.
